Dimensions: 6'1" x 8'8"
This is an exceptional collector’s piece; a rare tribal Baluch main carpet. It dates to the second half of the 19th century. The design, scale, border, and uncommon large size indicates that it is most likely a prestigious Chakhansur type. The field features the rare and sought-after "Crab" (Harshang) design, artfully accented with stylized chicken and bird motifs. The borders are masterfully rendered and both ends have mixed weave techniques (flatweave, weft float, pile, etc.). The color palette has the standard rich reds, deep browns, light blues, teal, navy blue, and occasional white.
Condition is fair, commensurate with its significant age. Pile is low and side cords and ends are frayed. Please study the images for details.
