Here is an antique Persian Bijar Rug, circa 1890. This all-wool piece -- both pile and foundation -- features the classic Herati or fish design woven into a rich navy field. The deep red border frames the pattern beautifully, adding contrast and elegance. Measuring in a highly desirable size, it is a great find from the late 19th century. Sought after for their durability and artistry, rugs of this age and quality are increasingly rare especially in this versatile size. Typical to many old Bijar rugs this piece has that bow-shape to it, so it is not perfectly rectangular.
