Large Jaff bag front

$850.00

Dimensions: 2'8" x 3'

A singing example of Kurdish tribal art circa 1880s. The Kurdish tribes settled in four different countries: Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Syria. The Jaff tribe that wove this bag were mainly on the Persian side. These bags were made solely for domestic use but later when the tribes settled they became a commodity for commerce. Many bags of this type were imported to the US and Europe but the best examples have lush wool and excellent dyes. The color juxtaposition, smart use of ivory, and the intricate irregularities point to the high skill level of the weaver. This bag is in very good condition and particularly large which make it a great candidate for table covering or even scatter rug.
