Dimensions: 4'10" x 6'7"

A charming example of a Khamseh tribal rug from the 1910s. Khamseh is the name of a confederation of five nomadic tribes of different origins who lived in southwest Persia near the city of Shiraz. The tribes were united in 1862 under a single federation. The confederation was dissolved in 1950; however, the word continues to be used to identify their rugs. The Khamseh tribe wove many different designs, but the bird or chicken design is perhaps one of the most classic ones in the market.

This rug has a special dark color palette typical of the Khamseh rugs, and is made entirely of wool. The corroded brown dyes signal the significant age. The quality and shine of the wool is exemplary and the overall condition is great. All the above makes this rug a great heirloom candidate.
